10 Fold Return On Investment In 6 Months Case Study

A leadership development program realizes a ten-fold return on investment in six months, providing a team of new leaders already producing results to forward the company strategy to sustain the momentum of a transformation.

The leadership of a food manufacturer undergoing a transformation that was expected to result in the increased market share they desired realized that to sustain the momentum they would need in the long run, they did not have the necessary “bench strength” of leaders in the organization.  When we talked to them about our leadership development program, they balked: it would take too much time away from the job of too many of their best performers, they said.  We asked them, “Would you feel better about it if we guaranteed that you would see a ten times return on your investment of time and money?”  Of course, they said yes.

We brought together twenty-four employees who were considered high performers.  We had managers, supervisors, and individual contributors from several different areas of business.  We challenged each to create a project that was consistent with the corporate strategy, had the support of the appropriate manager, was a huge stretch for the company, and would yield measurable results in a relatively short period of time if they were successful.  Working with them for approximately three weeks over a period of six months, they easily surpassed their ten times target.  But more that that, the company could see that they now had twenty-four more people to add to their leadership roster-people that they could count on to create the future and produce outstanding results.
